placements and mentoring

Who are we?

Educ8 are an offsite educational provider based near the centre of Leeds and is currently in its eighth year of trading. The initial focus of the work was academic support for a range of subjects, in particular GCSE’s and BTECs for KS4 students. As well as concentrating on core academic subjects we also have units of work around Speaking and Listening, Improving Confidence, Law and Order, Personal Budgeting, Employability and Independent Living. These are just examples of a much wider choice of units which are personalised to both learner and school.

We enjoy positive working partnerships with schools across the city and with a diverse group of other providers and agencies.

We are a small staff team including a qualified sports coach as health and fitness and leisure activities form an important part of the provision.

What are we looking for?

We would welcome individuals who can be a positive and motivated role model to young people who can challenge and disappoint often in equal measures! We would need people who are reliable and punctual, who can remain calm and are willing to take on a challenge. Placements must be able to lead by example and be prepared to recognise and praise small steps of achievement.

Appropriate use of reward and recognising the boundaries of the tutor/learner relationship are important. Confidence around speaking positively to parents and in providing formal feedback to schools would be welcome but support to develop this will be in place.

What will you get out of it?

Hopefully a lot of personal job satisfaction. We have a high success rate with young people and with the support you will receive you will hopefully be able to make and to see a difference. You will be working alongside an experienced, skilled and small friendly staff team who are always open to new ideas and are happy to support someone who wants to try something different.

You will have regular constructive feedback and one to one support meetings. We will also provide formal feedback to you, or any relevant personnel on the progress made during placement. You will have the opportunity to discuss any training needs and we will do our best to support these. Staff are a mix of qualified teachers, PTLLS accredited, Tutor Assessors, Sports Coach and Internal Verifiers.

You will develop confidence in working alongside a diverse range of learners and to see first-hand the range of approaches to this work. We are happy to discuss with individuals any particular area of interest. We are a well-equipped centre with a range of resources at your disposal and refreshments and lunch will be provided.

Please note a fully enhanced DBS check will be needed for all volunteers.
